 and up to now there is no where that I know of that sells dedicated tried and tested Mullet Flies.

The Ultimate Bread Fly

Have you ever expectantly dressed a Bread Fly? only to frustratingly discover that when you actually use it, the Mullet quite happily feed on the bread you have thrown in, then look on quite snobishly at your offering, only to then swim away in search of more bread?
This fly has caught more Mullet on ALL West Cumbrian Mullet marks than I care to count, and is simply a pattern which they do not shy from when feeding on the bread.
The fly pulses invitingly in any small currents when dead drifted and is usually best fished cast at 45 degrees upstream into any available flow. Once the fly is level with you as it drifts down, feel for what could be a snag, lift the rod to your own bank and then hold on for dear life. In certain marks at the right times this fly also works without the use of bread!

We spent many frustrating hours cleaning flies that became snagged whilst we fished towards Mullet which were active in very low water in tidal stretches of rivers. A small pattern which could be fished effectively had to be devised to overcome this problem. This pattern also works well when the fronds of weed are stood up due to the tide coming in. A good bet is to fish this on a dropper above an Ultimate Bread Fly if you are chumming with bread.
