... My Journey To Becoming a Qualified Instructor...

My full name is Lee Cummings and I am based in the small Cumbrian town of Millom, I have fished the Sea and Freshwaters in this area on and off since the age of seven. My journey towards becoming a proffesional instructor began in late 2004 when I was approached by a casting instructor on the banks of the river Annan whilst fly fishing for Salmon, he advised me that if I could teach clearly to others exactly what I was doing I would have the makings of a good instructor. After some thought and doing some research into the multitude of angling teaching awards available in the UK, it became obviously apparent that there was only one way to go, and that was to approach AAPGAI.

Following some outstanding mentoring sessions to polish my casting by my good friend Glyn Freeman, In April 2006 I sat and passed the AAPGAI Advanced Trout assessment* , and the following April in 2007 I undertook the AAPGAI Advanced Salmon assessment*  and again was successful in passing,
subsequently becoming "currently" the youngest full member of the Association, and upon this I was invited to undergo the AAPGAI Assessors Apprenticeship which lasts for a total of three years.

In February 2008 I was approached by and asked to join RIO's Pro Guide Team here in the UK, this is the first serious opportunity offered to me by a tackle company, and one of which I am again, very excited about.
In April 2008 I sat and passed the  AAPGAI Masters Trout Assessment*,  probably the most technically difficult examination an instructor could take anywhere in the world, and I am exceptionally proud to have achieved this level. I constantly work on my Angling/Casting skills and teaching methodology as a very enthusiastic instructor looking to be at the best of my game at all times, simply to ensure I uphold the notoriety of the AAPGAI award and offer all my clients excellent value for money.
