.. Tim Rajef Echo Micro Practice Rod ..

If there was one thing
i wish i would haved included into this review, it would have to have
been the picture of my wifes face when this fantastic little teaching
tool was delivered to my front door. "Youve got a friggin fishing rod
for casting in the bloody house? !".....
"Aye Ange, awesome eh? !".....
Fumbling about as i tore off the packaging, i was confronted with a
clear plastic tube which contained the rod, the rope and yarn and some
basic casting instructions on a leaflet which included photos taken in
a huge living room worth dying for, positively american!!.
The rod comes in two sections which when assembled is approximately 4ft
in length, it has a comfortable black foam handle, single foot guides,
but more importantly, when the yellow rope with red yarn attached is
threaded up through the guides, this minature rod feels like casting
a full size fly rod for real!, and Honestly...... What Fun!
Within 30 seconds I was casting at the maximum rope length, a backcast
from the dining room into the living room, and aiming my forward cast
into the open conservatory doors, During this time I managed to knock
off ornaments which had been placed lovingly on the living room window
sill, and I managed catch my inquisitive two year old baby daughter a
she toddled by, all the time casting under pressure due to the watchful
eyes of my wife, who was glaring on in disbelief.
Ok the funny side of indoor distance casting practice wore off pretty
quickly with Angela, but the best was yet to come, I pulled in the
majority of the yellow rope leaving around 6ft of it beyond the tip,
and i went from the wooden floored area of the dining room, and into
the carpeted living room, here I proceeded to set up a D loop for some
roll cast practice. I couldnt believe just how effective the red yarn
was at gripping the carpet and providing me with a very realistic
"Anchor Point" for me to make a correct roll casts from, I initially
thought that the red yarn was simply a safety feature, but in all
honesty, its this little piece of yarn which makes this whole outfit as
realistically cool as it is.

Now i am in the very fortunate
position to have three children, include the Echo MPR and its a sure
fire recipie for fun. My 5 year old daughter is absolutely fishing crazy
"much to the dismay of Anglea" and this rod has become a permanent
attachment to her right hand as it is always set up and left for anyone
in the house to cast. So far she is able to practice her Roll Casts
with it, do Double Speys and she can do Basic Overhead casts with at
least half of the rope beyond the tip, she does need to get her Snake
Rolls right because at the moment she is performing the spirals the
wrong way round!
My 2 year old daughter hates feeling left out and when she can get the
opportunity to get to grips with the rod, she does, and her
instructional technique goes like this "Ahhh ... D loop.... ahh Flik"
as she performs the cutest roll cast you have ever seen, she has much
potential!
My 9 year old son is too interested in Wrestling on TV to be swayed by
the MPR indoors, but his head does serve as fantastic target practice
when he lies on the floor watching the TV.
You see with this rod, not only can we perform perfect roll casts on
carpet, and indoor overheads, we can also do all the other casts we can
with a normal rod, like curving the line, hooking the line around
corners, perform ariel mends, wiggle casts, pile casts, side cast, snap
casts, snake rolls... the whole job lot, and again all the time it
actually feels like the real thing..!!
Of course the concrete my wife is made from hasnt set fully as of yet,
and she couldnt resist a turn of the rod. Thankfully the rod was
manufactured quite robustly and it is still intact!...
